Security on the Loose as Thieves invades Liberian Cities

No society can boast of enjoying peace without a concomitant environment of security.  Security of man; properties; and environment is very important and a sacred responsibility of every Government and National Security Operatives.

For close to two weeks now, residents of New Georgia and Broad Street have been rendered vulnerable by the wanton activities of confident thieves depriving passers-by of their belongings including their clothes.
These confident thieves dressed in a very unsuspecting manner like the wearing of coat and are almost always in a gang of six, seven or more. They always look out for someone who is distraught in thoughts and follow the person till they surround you entirely. They come wielding machetes, sharp knives, razors, pliers, and rope that they deploy to torture and to silence their victims.

In an interview with some residents of those areas, they confirmed their vulnerability to these thieves who sometimes break into their homes and make away with their belongings. They also pointed out the fact that, attempts to have the Liberian National Police (LNP) apprehend these criminals have yielded nothing. According to some residents, some of the policemen and women are into partnership with some of the thieves so arresting them would be as if they were exposing themselves for public ridicule. “Who will protect us they ask me? And whom can they trust?”

The average life of a resident is filled with fear and this brings to the fore their weaknesses in the hands of these society wreckers.

To uphold the democratic gains over the years, the leadership of the nation and the Minister of Internal Affairs cannot eat their cake and have it. The people of Liberia need peace and it must be an absolute peace paving the way for prosperity and freedom of all. The Liberian National Police (LNP), the Emergency Support Unit (ESU) and the Police Support Unit (PSU) must all be re-tooled and appropriately equipped to deliver quality security services to the citizenry and the foreign investors without which the economy would be left stunted.

Community vigilantes groups must also be awaken and monitor the community for their own good. Life lost cannot be re-gain in the community. Those criminals must be apprehended and be made to face the dictates of the law without fear or favor. Liberia - the land of freedom -belongs to Liberians and no Liberian should be allowed to act above the law not even H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Any foreigner caught in this act of inhumane activity must not be spared either. We must all build this society we love.

For Africa to be great, the countries making the continent must all be digitally connected to the seemingly peaceful environment taking shape now.
